The 28th edition of SUN, the International Exhibition of Outdoor products, will take place on October 14-16, 2010 at the beautiful Rimini Expo Center. A reference point for professionals in the outdoor furnishing, design, and accessory pipeline, SUN (12 halls, 700 exhibitors, over 20,000 expected professional visitors, 10 special events) intends to confirm its growing success in terms of quality of visitors, products, and solutions for residential, public, and contract outdoor spaces.

90.000 sq. m. divided into theme-specific areas:

OUT_Style. A window on market trends, gathering projects, products, and solutions for residential, contract, and ho.re.ca. furnishing and expanded to include gardening, cooking, and leisure.

SEA_Style. Everything, absolutely everything for bathing establishments, beaches, tourist clubs, offering a more and more comprehensive hospitality, independent of seasons and diversified by daytimes and user targets.

SUNaquae. Swimming-pools, tubs, mini-SPAs, equipment, systems, and products for personal and collective well-being, in and with water, in and outdoor.

Urban Style. An exhibition where urban furnishing design, lighting, outfits, and accessories play a multiple role focused on the beauty, decoration, and functionality of collective public spaces.

Giosun. A section that is a true international fair, now at its 25th edition, dedicated to outdoor games and fun, both for domestic and for urban, public, tourist, and school spaces.

OUTDOOR DESIGN

SUN, where market, passions, and relations merge with research, experimentation, aesthetic avant-garde, and functional practice. SUN, where Outdoor Living becomes Lifestyle, in a beautiful journey through enchanted gardens, boutiques above water, unique ambiances along with international spaces, laboratories, and competitions.

 

Water, Design, research, green, trends, and experimentation will be once again the main players: in addition to the exhibition dedicated to swimming-pools, mini-SPAs, and hydromassage, SUN will set up again the beautiful BOUTIQUES ABOVE WATER, where companies will create fascinating ambiances in the open-air pools of the fairground.

True boutiques, showrooms, flagship stores above water: half-way between the exhibiting stand and the show, a few leading Outdoor design brands will set up outdoor floating areas, giving life to a truly unique exhibiting and emotional setting, between water, islands, and mainland.

A large ITALIAN-STYLE GARDEN at the main entrance to the show will be dedicated to design, to the Italian and international press, and to international negotiations.

Like a true big Italian-style garden, the connection between the products on display, the international business, and the media world will be highlighted by avenues used as perspective axes, enhancing its contents and panoramic effect, paced by trees, geometric hedges, and classical architectural forms.

 

Major companies, product designs displayed in settings that faithfully reproduce real outdoor spaces, market novelties, vegetal architectures, and a huge visitor flow will be the protagonists of a unique set-up in the international exhibiting scenario, where business, new products and relations will be one.

Seductive boutiques in live green, surrounded and enhanced by a triumph of nature tamed by man’s smart geometries.

EXPERIMENTS AND DESIGN

Moreover SUN will display the outcome of the experiments on outdoor furnishing made in 2 international competitions, dedicated respectively to young (under 35) outdoor design talents (SUN.LAB competition) and to internationally renowned design figures (FROM THE NEST TO THE SHELL), supported by leading companies in the sector. These are top-level competitions based on a theme specified by the organizers of the Show to create prototypes for outdoor furnishing items, outfits, and furnishing systems.

The theme for SUN.LAB 2010 is GAMING meant as the playful interpretation of outdoor furniture, outfits, and accessories, rather than just as the prototyping of games or playing facilities for open spaces. FROM THE NEST TO THE SHELL 2010, under the art direction of architect Luca Sacchetti, will be the focus of a group of international designers involved in the conception of furnishing solutions using stone materials from companies that belong to the districts of excellence of Italian stones.

In the past 2 years these competitions aroused so much interest by specialized companies that most of these projects have been manufactured and marketed.
And there is more to that.

For the fourth year in a row, SUN will host to the outcome of the Higher Graduation Course of POLI.design (Milan Polytechnic) - Outdoor Experience Design – dedicated to the design of private and public outdoor spaces, a look at the future of outdoor spaces, where new housing styles meet with the innovative skills of technologically advanced companies, aware of changes in the outdoor sector.

Outdoor Experience Design is the only course in Europe dedicated to the conception, design, and furnishing of private and public open spaces: gardens, terraces, and dehors of public concerns and hotels.

An Outdoor sector that is more and more focused on customization and craft-technology in view of non-serial authenticity and DIY: do it yourself but, particularly, DESIGN IT YOURSELF. The Show will offer a display of about fifteen products conceived by the students of the Industrial Design Workshop at La Sapienza University in Rome, dedicated to an Outdoor DIY rich of novelties, surprises and strictly reproducible self-made solutions: the genius and creativity of Italian design facing the international economic downturn at the origin of the models for the ‘do-it-yourself’ production of outdoor furnishing items.

 

LIVE AMBIANCES

Faithful reproductions of squares and roads for urban furnishing, of dehors of public concerns (bathing establishments, restaurants, hotels, tourist clubs…) for the contract sector, and natural ambiances will also be offered.

These include:

OUTSTANDING CONTRACT
A fabulous set-up conceived by architect Marco Lucchi and implemented by AFA Arredamenti in cooperation with high-prestige outdoor furniture sponsors.

A 1,000 sq. m. stage reproducing a highly refined outdoor space dedicated to relax, meetings, well-being, with parts shaded with covers and green, lounge areas to lie in the sun, an active bar and, in the middle, a large swimming-pool designed for the purpose. A multi-faceted set-up, a place for breakfast, as well as for lunch, for drinks, an ideal location for evening gatherings, for night life.

DOWNTOWN
A 900 sq. m. wide space-event conceived by the leading company NERI and implemented by Studio Angelo Grassi. Decoration, furnishing, lighting, security, exploitation, and accessibility of public space will be the leit motiv of the show. Outfits, infrastructures, and green have created an area for transit and permanence fit for any kind of urban centre, capable to arouse emotions and to ensure relax and physical and mental well-being.

CAMPING&VILLAGE SHOW
At SUN, all the operators, owners, and managers of CAMPING AREAS, TOURIST CLUBS, AND AGRO-CAMPS in Italy and abroad will find an exhibiting area of over 4,000 sq. m. dedicated to OUTDOOR TOURISM. This is the CAMPING&VILLAGE SHOW, the great event dedicated to the camping, tourist club, and agro-camp world, with special focus on motor homes, offered by leading Italian and international companies.

And then workshops, meetings, and happenings focused on the urban landscape and on landscape architecture, as well as an important meeting on the design of a bioenergetic therapeutic garden and the usual national meetings of the top managers of the Italian bathing industry and tourist sector.
