SUN and more: T&T-Tende e Tecnica
The 2009 edition of SUN (October 8-10) will enjoy a partial combination with T&T-Tende & Tecnica (October 7-10), the 5th International Biennial Exhibition of products and solutions for protection, shading, energy saving, security, furnishing, also for operators only. In just 4 editions, T&T-Tende & Tecnica has become the second most important show in the world for the sector of curtains and outdoor shadings: www.tendeetecnica.it.
This combination creates a stage and a business area that will cover the entire exhibiting ground, with its 16 halls, for a total 120,000 sq. m. surface, almost 1,000 exhibiting companies, and 35,000 expected visitors.
the market, the main players
The Show is the world hub of a bustling market, that sees Italy as a major player in terms of production, export, consumption, and import; a market with important international perspectives. In 2007, Italy confirmed its leadership in terms of production (about 292 million EUR of production value, +4.5% vs. 2006, 21% of the European market, the third largest share at a continental level) and consumption (the domestic market is worth 230 million EUR, +4.7%, and is among the five most important).
Moreover, Italy has confirmed its European leadership in exports, totalling 43% of the total value, equal to approximately 140 million EUR (+8% vs. 2006). The main countries of destination include the US (25%), France (18%), Germany (11%), Switzerland (6/7%), Austria (5%). Overall, the EU absorbs about 45% of Italy’s exports.
Italy ranks fourth by imports, worth 78 million EUR, +12% vs. 2006, particularly from EU markets (52%) and from the Far East (35.5%).
|
|
While the European market totalled 1,666 million EUR of consumptions in 2007 (+5% compared to 2005) at production value, Italy is now established as a major continental player with hundreds of companies – from large industries (the main 15 companies account for 80% of the market) to craft workshops – with about 2,500 operators.

SUN 2009=PRE-VIEWS
Outdoor living, loving outdoor
A universe of manufacturing sectors revolving around Outdoor living closes the warm season and projects towards the future. Projects us towards the future.
Aim: the trends for the next season. And the megatrends for the future: colours, forms, materials, customs, concepts to identify and outline the future, anticipating the new housing trends.
SUN, the International Exhibition of Outdoor Products, is the largest business platform dedicated to Outdoor living, where the exhibitors meet with old and new customers, establish contacts, collect orders, develop sales, identify new channels. And dictate the rules for the Outdoor living lifestyle. |

Research, enterprises, and business along with innovation, imagination, and creativity. A mix of tradition and technique, of matter subjected to creativity, to imagination, to genius, to intuition, the déjà vu or the avant-garde for chairs, deck chairs, benches, tables, pots, sun beds, sun umbrellas, sofas, curtains, covers, lighting, accessories, furnishing systems that allow to furnish and experience the outdoor world. At all costs. In all seasons. Everywhere. For all.
|
|
SUN is the largest venue for outdoor experimentation and design, where young talents, archistars, designers, and architects promote a market that is strongly oriented towards the culture of design, of products, and of customization.
SUN is the great theatre, the location, the stage, the big circle that encloses and filters, transforms, incubates, reworks, reintroduces, restyles everything. In advance over time.

October 8-10. On these dates Rimini becomes the world capital of outdoor design through atmospheres, emotions, shows, debates, and ambiances that follow brand new and high-impact paths, along with international spaces, workshops, courses, and competitions.
Outdoor Living
The fluid dimension of being
SUN gives shape and substance to a new, fluid dimension, less schematic and confined, more flexible, to an IN&OUT, where liquid design transforms hybrid space, and the outside melts with the inside in all respects: Out is more and more living, more and more mini-SPA, more and more lounge, more and more cooking.
No more outdoor furnishing or indoor furnishing: outdoor furnishing is home furnishing. Design trends and the pursuit of healthier living knock down the barrier between IN&OUT, and one large and enjoyable living space appears to spend time, work, play, and relax.
Isolated, but not lonely projects.
With a soft balance and some magic transparencies. Because the outdoor has a personality, an imprint, a temperament. Whether small or large, outdoor space reflects the personality, the culture, and the subjective style of those that live in it and interpret it. Minimal or measured, optical or metallic, light-white or noble-black, all red or multicoloured, drops of light or suffused luxury, wood, metal, or resins: give every man his due. But something there must be. With a personal touch. Because loving open spaces means loving oneself. Outdoor Living, Loving Outdoor.

SUN.LAB for a creative outdoor (2nd edition)
Future fame: the young Outdoor Design talents tackling the theme of the home garden vigorously and ingeniously
After the exciting experience of 2008, the competition-workshop of SUN dedicated to young design talents (under 35) from all over the world will present an amazing set of novelties, a great showcase of products non-products, of working prototypes, tested and created with the same materials and technologies provided for by the respective projects. A creativity that young people enforce on companies.
The theme for this edition is the home garden, meant as a space to relax, focus on one’s well-being, organize sharing opportunities, cultivate hobbies. A space that is not only identified with a private and confined place, but also transferred into renewed outdoor living in an urban setting, in view of reconquering public, urban and non urban spaces.
The home garden is a theme intended to stimulate original design, brand new experiments on forms and materials to create products closely tied to the relation with nature and to the quality of the time spent in contact with it, both outdoor and indoor, according to the most recent trend towards the merger between the inside and the outside. |
Outdoor Experience Design (3rd edition)
SUN y POLI.Design forman los nuevos profesionales del proyecto de los espacios externos
SUN is the exclusive academic partner of the post-graduate High-level Training course for future outdoor designers, in partnership with POLI.Design. At the show, new projects will be presented, dedicated to versatile living, to the merger between in&out according to the latest and upcoming developments and trends. With Outdoor Experience Design, SUN will identify the signs, the dreams, and the symbols of boundless design conceived to inhabit outdoor spaces.
Terraces, verandas, gardens, as well as the outside spaces of public concerns and hotels, tend to change, both in terms of inhabitability and of design and housing style: the terrace becomes “the additional room” expanding the living room, the hotel garden becomes a spectacular lounge for aperitifs and after-dinner drinks, beyond the limits of traditional hotel bars. This new way of intending and using these spaces demands of architects and designers new professional skills and a comprehensive overview of the now expanding sector, where innovation and design play a more and more important role.
Urban_Style
An exhibiting route dedicated to urban Design, with spaces for events, meetings, workshops, and conventions
With its 27th edition SUN will set up for the first time a route specifically dedicated to urban furnishing, with a great event-space (900 sq. m.) supervised by the company NERI and fitted by Studio Angelo Grassi.
The exhibiting route, which will enjoy a natural setting in the halls of SUN – always careful about decoration, furnishing, lighting and lighting equipment, requalification, and usability of public open spaces – will be supported by the workshops organized by Paysage-Architettura del Paesaggio, the official review of AIAPP.
In this area, architects, landscape designers, planners, and specialized operators will approach the most innovative projects dedicated to urban furnishing, planning, and landscape architecture, giving life to a unique confrontation among internationally renowned professionals on ideas, projects, and solutions.
After the great success of 2008 (SUN Street event), the collaboration with the association Animum Ludendo Coles – l’isola che c’èis renewed with the set up of a great exhibiting area which will host a convention of operators, professionals, and public administrations on the issues of design of public spaces as places to meet and socialize. |

Across the Embankment: design on the edge
SUN and La Sapienza: Design at the service of the requalification of degraded places near water courses
To a design that is often demanded to figure out new opportunities to use degraded places, in view of revitalizing and requalifying them, SUN and La Sapienza University in Rome (LSDI course) offer a set of prototypes, sometimes made with Italian top-quality materials, that act as meditated, aesthetic, viable, innovative, or innovated solutions. The focus of these areas will be on degraded locations near water courses.
