interzum - the world's largest trade fair for suppliers to the furniture industry and design construction – will take place from 13 to 16 May 2009. It will again be a meeting place for knowledge sharing, a forum for the presentation of new products, where future trends are revealed and visions for the industry articulated. For 50 years the sector has used interzum to display their innovations to an international audience. This anniversary is celebrated with a special exhibition of living spaces on the boulevard.

Altogether this year, 1,330 exhibitors from 58 countries will present their innovations to an international trade audience. Once again, around 70 percent of exhibitors will come from abroad; a top ranking figure for the international trade fair industry. Austria, Spain, Italy and Turkey are particularly strongly represented. Alongside market leaders in all product areas, the many small and medium-sized companies represented give interzum its interesting mix and its unique flair. Fifty thousand visitors are expected, also with a foreign proportion of 70 per cent.
Halls 5-10 of the exhibition centre were booked for the last interzum; this year’s meeting has been expanded by one hall (4.2). This way, despite the present difficult economic situation in many countries, interzum could expand the exhibition surface by eight per cent (to 157,000 m² - compared to 145,000 m ² in 2007).
“I see these data as clear confirmation of the significance of interzum as the leading industry event worldwide. In times when there are few constants when it comes to trade fairs, exhibitors orientate themselves to those places where they can efficiently focus their energies on their business in an international environment,” says Udo Traeger, Vice President of Furniture, Interior Design & Textiles at Koelnmesse. “Simply put, interzum is the ideal place to present innovations.”
An overview of the hall plan
In Hall 5.1 the section on “Nature & Interior” can be found, thus primarily wood and veneer. Hall 5.2 focuses on Components & Ergonomics, which are semi-finished products such as complete chair frames. The timber products industry’s offering, as well as decorative surfaces such as paper and laminates are united in hall 6 under the heading “Form & Decoration”. Halls 7 and 8 are dedicated to the traditionally strong area of functional fittings and bear the name “Function & Parts”. interzum is also the largest global event for “Upholstery and Bedding”, which is the basis for halls 9, 10.1 and 10.2. In “Machinery & Technology” in halls 9 and 10.1, machines for processing textile materials are exhibited. Hall 10.2 is home to textiles, including leather and covering fabrics.

"innovation of interior” underlines interzum’s competence in interior fittings
interzum is underlining its competence in interior fittings with the new project “innovation of interior” in hall 4.2. Here, themes such as social changes, opportunities for lightweight design, light as a design feature and materials for mobile spaces, for example in aeroplane design, yacht construction and caravans, are tackled and their effects on planning and construction highlighted. This project turns the spotlight on innovative materials and surprising uses. “innovation of interior” is deliberately planned as an open concept and is especially aimed at architects, interior designers, designers and product developers. In hall 4.2, this target group will find a wide range of information tailored to their specific needs. This is precisely the added value that visitors to a leading international trade fair are looking for.

The trends of the interzum award: intelligent material & design
The overview of the global trends, unlike any other fair, makes a visit to interzum a must. The interzum award is an excellent introduction to all the interesting innovations. The innovation competition, for which Koelnmesse is inviting entries in co-operation with “red dot” for the fifth consecutive time, is giving out 42 awards this year, among them seven in the highest class, the “best of the best”. |

High-quality supporting programme
interzum is not just an exhibition where exhibitors show their new products and demonstrate new trends, developments and innovations. With its trend shows and lecture forums, and especially its lounge areas, it is a place for lively interactive exchange. Once again the famous piazzas located in the centre of each trade fair hall offer just the right environment for discussion. Arranged thematically, the piazza in hall 6 presents visitors with a visual magnet dedicated to diversity. The International Veneer Day will take place in hall 5.1, as always organised in cooperation with IFN & GD Holz, and, last but not least, the Piazza in hall 10.2 is devoted to the theme of textile coverings. Under the motto “Companies at your fingertips”, a careers day will take place on Saturday, 16 May 2009, giving interested exhibitors the opportunity to demonstrate the great career prospects in the furniture and supplier industry. |
