The Chair District (Friuli Venezia Giulia region) is a unique manufacturing entity in the world (about a thousand highly specialised companies, almost all located in the Udine province - 800 of which within 100 km2 of each other) producing tens of millions of chairs annually. The District is taking part in the Milan Fuorisalone event, choosing a special location and a big stage: the Naviglio Grande canal, part of this year’s events by Zona Tortona.

A floating exhibition over the Naviglio with an installation of chairs representing the extraordinary manufacturing skills of Friulian chair manufacturers. A striking outdoor display that emphasizes the know-how, creativity and quality of this compound entity, whose roots trace back through 150 years of tradition. Here, chairs are manufactured (but also tables and furnishing elements) that combine design research with experience and the technical and cultural know how of small and large companies working side by side with international designers.

Products that capture the true spirit of Made in Italy, created in an area characterised by a mix of keen craftsmanship and technological innovation, and distinguished by precise workmanship and the choice of materials used (with particular attention paid to wood, a live and eco-sustainable material that reinterprets the Friulian tradition through contemporary design). Seating that range from classic to modern, customised to furnish prestigious common areas all over the world (Friulian seating products accommodate guests in the halls of largest cruise ships, the most prestigious hotels and trendy spots, airports and theatres, as well as in many government buildings).

Organised by the Udine Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Promosedia, the company developing and promoting the Friulian seating sector, Floating Chairs – on the event calendar of Zona Tortona – will have a strong visual impact on visitors, who will be able to enjoy this special exhibition until late at night, as it will be facing the restaurants and after-dinner spots in one of Milan’s most distinctive areas. “Tom Thumb” chairs will trace the path between the Navigli and Zona Tortona.
