• Talks, kitchen cinema and etiquette seminars on the show stage
• German premiere of Carl Warner photo exhibition
From 18th – 23rd January 2011, the new international kitchen event LivingKitchen will be emotionalising the theme of kitchens & cooking with an attractive supporting programme. “We’re planning an informative and exciting accompanying programme to whet visitors’ appetite,” says Koelnmesse’s Chief Executive Officer Gerald Böse.
LivingKitchen has signed up Johann Lafer for the event, a celebrity chef who for many years has been committed to making people more aware of cooking culture and the pleasures of a natural way of life. Along with an instinct for what really matters, his personal priorities include quality, aesthetics, enjoyment, naturalness and joie de vivre. As somebody who is in constant search of the best-possible foods, he sees the product as the real star of the show.
Nelson Müller is totally different. As a gourmet chef, singer, handball player, boxer and nature-lover, he never fails to delight his fans. Many will know him from his appearances as a TV chef on various cooking shows. But Müller won’t be cooking alone. Janine Kunze, famous for her role as the strident Carmen in the TV series “Hausmeister Krause”, will be giving Müller a helping hand on Sunday, 23rd January 2011. And as well as his reading and signing session, journalist Axel Hacke will also be helping Müller stir things up and making sure there’s plenty of action in the “Cooktainment” event zone.
The show stage will also be presenting a varied and colourful programme. The “Trommelfeuer” percussion group is definitely worth a visit: during the band’s performances, paella pans set the beat and whisks, saucepans and drum sticks merge to create a musical delicacy in a class of its own. The hard-hitting musicians unleash a powerful percussion storm – not only on familiar instruments, but on outrageous, weird materials as well.
The show stage will also be hosting seminars and talks. In half-hour training courses, Barbara Rumpf will be introducing her listeners to the subtleties of proper behaviour as defined by German etiquette guru Knigge. Whether it’s “Etiquette in business and private life” or “Table and eating manners”, Barbara Rumpf knows how to avoid putting your foot in it. On Friday, 21st January, author Axel Hacke will be giving the audience an insight into his works. Hacke is famous for writing columns that stop at nothing. With characteristic humour, he explains why Malaga is the best flavour of ice-cream and how Columbian ravens crack nuts, gives refrigerators a chance to have their say or tells how his son has been known to spend the wee hours flattening clothes with a cold iron. On Sunday, 23rd January, the stage will be dedicated to the little ones. Monika Werner from the “KidsKochstudio” (“Kids’ Cooking Studio”) will be talking about healthy nutrition for children. Besides giving little cooks the chance to join in, the “KidsKochstuido” also aims to give kids a playful introduction to the most important principles of nutrition.
The pictures of Carl Warner will be making their German debut at LivingKitchen. A passionate author and musician, Warner combines his second love – music – with his animation work. Warner’s photography is an intense exploration on the topic of food. His goal: to encourage good eating habits through his art.
The LivingKitchen Party on Thursday, 20th January 2011 promises to be a rare delicacy of the acoustic and Lucullan kind. Nelson Müller will be getting the audience in the mood with soul and funk numbers by his “Jim Rockford Band”. Visitors and exhibitors alike can round off a successful day at the fair with finger food and cocktails.
